Our very own Andrew Edney was guest speaker at Heidelberg Historical Society on 8th December 2015.
The title of his presentation “Ivanhoe Harriers: From St. James Church to Willinda Park” is of course the title of his 100 year history of the Club.
This was an opportunity for Andrew to present a precis of his excellent book and at the same time further promote the Ivanhoe Harriers name. The preamble in The Heidelberg Historian newsletter was “A 100 year history of the Ivanhoe Harriers of whom a number of past members have represented Australia at Olympic Games, World Championships, Commonwealth Games and other international events.”
Andrew did an excellent job, presenting for about 40 minutes and was well supported by overheads which covered major issues in the history of our Club. The meeting was well attended by 30-40 local citizens including a visit from the Mayor. Your President attended and was very impressed with the evening and the very positive response from the audience. The Club remains a “household name” in Ivanhoe.
We should not forget the great contribution that Andrew has made to the Club since he started back in 1974 , he was appointed Life Member in 1997.
Well done Andrew.
Our club came 12th out of 15 teams for our division on the final ladder. This really comes down to the fact that we didn't have full teams in rounds 4, 5, 7 & 9 even though we came close for some events where we had 3 runners. Also we had some injuries this year which prevented some of our runners competing during the season.
Let's hope that we have full teams for all of the events next year which will greatly improve our position on the ladder.

Three junior athletes Rhys Rigoni, Bethany Illingworth and Kyla Green were selected to represent Victoria at the National Junior Championships at Homebush Stadium in Sydney. Rhys qualified for the Pole Vault, 200m Hurdles, Discus, Javelin, and Shot Put and Bethany for the 90m Hurdles and Pole Vault while Kyla qualified in the Pole Vault.
Rhys had a very good competition picking up a third place medal in the Pole Vault. Bethany unfortunately had to scratch from the hurdles due to continued quadriceps problems but did still manage to compete in the Pole Vault.

Braden ran a fine 100 metres finishing in 2nd place with an adjusted time of 11.52 seconds. Matthew competed in the 40 - 45 age group 15.88kg Weight Throw. He managed to get out a graded throw of 11.92m which put him into second place. Great effort guys, and a good example to our younger athletes.

The Men's Open Division 2 team finished on top of the ladder and therefore are the Red Zone Premiers for 2014/15 and progress to the AV Shield Final.
Well done to all the athletes that competed in AV Shield for the club this season, in particular the Under 14 girls who finished third in their age group just missing out on a finals birth.
Wouldn't it be great to see as many members and friends of our great club cheering on and supporting our team/s that will be competing at the Shield finals on the 31st Jan 2015.
We hope that you can make it on the day to show your support.
Why not wear your old IH top or T-shirt to give a boost to our athletes and show our competitors that even though we are a small club we have a great following with a bright future in front of us. I look forward to hearing some loud cheers for our athletes coming from the stadium at Albert Park.
